Music by Gloucestershire Composers

St Mary Magdalene Church,
Rodborough, Nr Stroud

Saturday, 6 October 2012

This was a concert of choral and organ music, plus poetry readings, all by composers who lived and worked in Gloucestershire. The evening was be the choir's tribute to Tom Fenton, great-grandson of Thomas Gambier Parry, who lived at Highnam and sadly died in the summer of 2010. Tom was a great lover of Gloucestershire music and sang in both the Three Choirs festival Chorus and The St Cecilia Singers.

The evening included a brief talk about Tom by John Wilman and the first performance of Mark Blatchly's setting of Ivor Gurney's poem, "The Songs I had". This work was commissioned in memory of Tom.
