Christmas Music - by candlelight

with Mark Lee - organ

Holy Trinity Church,

Thursday 11 December, 2014

It hardly seemed possible that a year had passed since our previous special Christmas concert at Minchinhampton.

This year we began with excerpts from two of the most enduringly popular large-scale works of the 18th century, namely Bach's Christmas Oratorio and Handel's Messiah.

The second half of our concert began with four pieces from Germany, followed by a sequence of traditional carols from Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, the Ukraine and Denmark.

We then went to France for the last two pieces, the final one of which was surprising in its original 16th century form.

The choral items were interspersed with seasonal organ pieces, played by Mark Lee, previously Assistant Organist of Gloucester Cathedral and Assistant Director of Music at the King’s School, and now Master of the Choristers & Organist at Bristol Cathedral.
